Greetings from the Editor
Our Fifth Successful Rally.

Our "Rally On The Rio" held January 19th - 25th 2004 in Mercedes Texas was our fifth successful Year for the rally.

This year we tried some new ideas.

Bill Matz gave a horn carving Class that was thoroughly enjoyed by his students. Many asked if Bill would be coming back and he has agreed to return.
Keith Holm, a local artist in his field, demonstrated woodturning and taught the safety of handling tools. Bill showed us how to turn a lamp shade on the lath. Also, he demostrated turning an offset mushroom, plates, bowls. This was a crowd pleaser and we hope we can get him back next year.

We will miss Maxine Blanchard as she is taking a well deserved retirement from the Rally. Maxine, has been with the Rally for the last 5 years handling all registrations and name badges. I wish to Thank Maxine for a hard job well done. Margaret Caywood is handling her job this year.

The donations received for the Rally helped make our Raffle a success.

We had a week of trying to carve everything that was being taught but time was not on our side - too many excellent instructors and carving projects. After carving from 8am till 5pm many still made time for the evening classes held from 6pm till 9pm. Our Carving Contest, which is always a lot of fun, was organized by Ronnie & Penney Reed with a little help from Tom Sarff cutting out some blanks.

Rio Grande Valley Woodcarvers Show McAllen Texas.

The 18th show was held on Jan 16th & 17 2004. A great show with many exhibitors. Margaret Caywood and Dorothy Chapapas and a host of volunteers put on a superb show. Desiree Hajny was the show judge and there were an exceptional amount of entries in the judging area. Dell Russell and his crew did a very good job in putting all entries in the right categories.
