Greetings from the Editor
Community ProjectOur carving club has a requirement that we perform a community project of some sort each year.
Since we meet in a Shriner's building, we thought a timely project would be to support their work with Crippled and Burned Children in this area as well as northern Mexico.
Several times a month, Shriners drive a van of children and their parents to the Shriner's Burn Center in Galveston, Texas, and the Crippled Children's Hospital in Houston.
We had learned of a group of men in Denver, Colorado, who make small wooden cars and donate them to charity, so we contacted the man in charge of this group and if we paid the transportation costs, we could have as many of the cars they made as we wished.
Our club leadership discussed the situation and the decision was made to ask for 500 cars. Before long, several boxes of little cars appeared in Mc Allen and in short order, they were donated to the Shriners.
The Shriners distribute them to children making the trip to the Clinics and
hospitals north of here and to children hospitalized in Shriners facilities
outside the Texas area.
